They lurk just beneath

The surface. That stench?

That’s them.

Because they’re the rotting corpse

Of what I used to be.

They’re drunk

On my blood

They feast

On my flesh

Then they finish up

By smoking

On my breath.

They’re my friends,

These corpses

Because friends never leave…

They never leave.

Remember Me

April 18, 2016 § Leave a comment

Forgotten in the moonlight

Clandestine girly giggles

Mingled with the sour scent

Of week old whiskey…

Every breath you took

Cut deeper into my throat

But that’s okay

Death has an embrace I hear.

If you forget, I’ll remind you,

I’m the flesh you greedily grab,

In the orgy that is the world.

The curves your eyes feast on

Unbeknownst to the owner.

The lipstick stain on the

Glass that holds your nectar

The poison you use

To put your victim to rest.

I am the sheets that twine

Between your legs and hers.

The mascara that’ll run

Down her face in the morning.

I am the smoke that emits,

From between the scarlet lips,

The sweet scent

Of perfume and despair.

Among the light laughter

I am the undertone that denies

I am what sucks out

The polite.

Don’t forget me so easy,

I am going nowhere,

The flame that I am,

Will only be put out by your ashes.

Her Story

The soft naked feet

Stepped onto the grass

Still wet with last night’s dreams

The silver bells tinkled

As she ran to the buttercup

Dancing in the spring breeze.

This was before,

Before she broke,

Before she was scattered across the ground,

Crushed beneath the feet,

Of the jailer of the night.

The supple body,

Once romanced in delight,

With the cool blue lake water,

The wind once played

With her feathery hair

The rain once ran down her body,

In petite streams.

That was before,

Before she became a canvas,

For the vile shadow that prowled the nights.

Sun kissed skin and freckled cheeks,

Tan body and silver anklets

Are now gone.

She is left with battle scars

Both seen and unseen.

She tripped on the stairs she’ll say,

Because some truths are best unheard.

The Dream

I see you in the golden rays

When the sun peeks out

Behind the clouds.

I smell you in the dewy grass

On blue skyed mornings

Sweet summer days.

I feel you as the wind

Takes me in its arms

And dances away.

I hear you in the rain

When the heavens cry

And we rejoice.

You are hidden

Between the words

In my yellowed battered book.

You are entwined

Our breaths mingling

Like when we’re one.

In my dreams

You are alive

And gone again at dawn.

I reach out

To feel your hands

Yearn to melt beneath your touch.

I wait

And wait

For time infinite

For you to walk out my dreams

To see you when my eyes are open

To feel you when awake.

This is You.

Like a grey storm cloud

On a sunny day

Like a piece of gum

That won’t go away,

You are the ruin

Of every joy

Useless like a

Discarded toy,

Hate is not the

Word I’d use

That much to you

I must refuse,

You are the dirt

Under my shoe

To all my yellows

You are the blue,

You are the regret

I wish I could drop

You are my past

That I cannot stop,

You are the mistake

That shames my day

You are the lesson

That I won’t replay.

She was young and well off. She had had an excellent education. She was the mistress of her own future and the world was in her fist. Or so she had been told.

Everything that had happened in her life was a result of careful planning and meticulous instruction meant to give her freedom. She would never have to answer to anyone they said. They told her she would live life on her own terms with her head held high. She could do as she pleased and no one could question her.

It’s funny how people can lie, even to themselves. The lie just has to be convincing enough. It just has to fit in with the idea of “right”, it just has to be “acceptable”.

She was supposed to be happy. She had earned her freedom. Her ticket to an independent life. She was now allowed to be a part of society. She was now free to follow what society dictated.

A Life Unseen

July 9, 2015 § 1 Comment

Beneath the night sky

Speckled with diamonds

Lay a world

Unseen. Where

Dew kissed the blades

Of lush green grass,

Of earthen mother.

Higher up

In the heavens,

The infant stars

Giggled in delight

Even as wispy clouds

Whispered secrets

Into the ears of the rabbit

That lives on the moon.

An owl hooted,

From the branches

Of the mighty oak,

Gently swaying,

As the dainty leaves,

Twirled and swished,

Dancing with the wind,

In music ancient,

Older than time itself.

In my depths,

I yearned to be more

Than just an intruder

Upon their lives,

I longed to join in,

To dance with the wind,

And hear the tales,

The clouds whispered.

Somewhere a car honked,

Jolting me back

To my reality,

Surprised to find

My lashes wet

With dreams

Destined to be unfulfilled.
